Pastor’s Pen:

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him …” (Psalm 100:4).

In my own experience I have discovered that no matter how bad things get, the good stuff outweights the bad stuff. When I, therefore, start thanking God for all the good things, I not only find myself in the presence of God. I confirm the reality that God is good and things are not as bad as I thought they were.

So no matter how bad things may be for you right now, discover the therapy of thanksgiving. Start thanking God for every good thing you can thing of for which you are grateful until you discover, in the presence of God, that the good stuff outweighs the bad stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Pastor’s Pen:

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,” (2 Peter 3:10, 11).

“Behold He comes, riding on the clouds” is from one of my favorite spiritual songs. It is called “Days of Elijah.” The song has a powerful reminder that the second coming of Christ is approaching, and for those in Christ it will be a wonderful day.

It is not a day that will be wonderful for all mankind. For those who do not believe in Jesus, it will be a terrible day. God is going to pour out His judgment on earth, and those who reject Him will experience His wrath. As Scripture teaches, His judgment will be without mercy.

The most important thing we can do is to be prepared for that day of the Lord. Our lives are to be marked by “holy conversation and godliness” (verse 11). We do this by trusting in Jesus Christ and living and Spirit-filled life. Only through Christ and the Holy Spirit can we achieve holy conversation and godliness. When Jesus returns, there will be sides: those for Him or those against Him. Make sure you are prepared for His coming because “out of Zion’s hill salvation comes.”

Jesus is coming,

Pastor’s Pen:

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God,” 1 John 4:7.

What would happen in a church body if the members fell totally in love with God the Father through His Son? The offering plates would overflow. Do you know that that love would overflow to your brothers and sisters in Christ? What if you loved your brothers and sisters in Christ so much that you forgave them their trespasses against you? What if nothing offended you, and every comment, every word spoken was to uplift the body of believers? Perhaps, a revival would break out and spill out throughout the world by way of increased prayers and financial support for missionaries and mission causes.

What if you love the unbeliever as God intends for you to love him? What would hinder your from telling him of the greatest love? You would constantly be looking for someone with whom to share the gospel of love-the love of God for him, the sacrifice of Jesus and Jesus’ love for him.

Pastor’s Pen:

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer,” (1 Peter 4:7)

Peter says Christians should wake-up to the fact that this old world will not be around for long because the end times are already upon us. Our focus should be on Jesus’ return to make all things right and setup His kingdom. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). “What manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation (lifestyle) and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved” (2 Peter 3:11,12).

Second Peter 3 tells us that scoffers in the end times will mock Christians who look for the return of Christ. Peter says that Jesus is not slack concerning His promise to return. The long-suffering of God is proof of His desire that more come to Jesus for salvation. The believer looks beyond what is going to happen to this earth. Believers look anticipation for new heavens and a new earth. He will burst through the Eastern sky and call His saints to escort Him to destroy evil in the world and setup His kingdom.

Be sober,
